How long have you been working in Childcare: 8 Years
What’s your philosophy when it comes to quality child care? When it comes to the 0-2 years, I believe children are way more capable than adults tend to give them credit for. Over the years I have seen this age group soar when provided with the right balance of support, guidance and belief that the child can achieve whatever they put their mind too. From exploring composting and aeration, to self-help skills like cutting fruits and vegetables or any form of cooking. If the children were interested, and they had educators providing emotional support and guidance, they would achieve.
I view the environment as the third teacher, and love to provide provocations that inspire curiosity, wonder, creativity and experimentation. I believe children learn holistically when outside; climbing trees, engaging in risky play, exploring different sights, sounds and textures that help to connect us to our local environment and getting messy amongst the mud, sand and dirt.
Being an educator to the 0-2 years is one of the most important roles you can have. This age is so vulnerable. The children rely on you to hear their cues and meet their needs without the use of verbal language, but through building responsive and trust-filled interactions. Children of this age are also experiencing everything for the very first time! It’s exciting and wonderful, and it’s important to genuinely share in the excitement and curiosity alongside the children, as it deepens relationships and provides the children with a sense of importance and an eagerness to discover more!
